The Webb Type 'L' windmill was a well built, fully enclosed, double geared windmill, which was manufactured by WEBB BROS. of 284 - 294 City Road, South Melbourne, Victoria.
Exact production dates are not known but the Type 'L' incorporated the improved features of Percy Barrett WEBB's Australian patents 928 of 1921 and 23,920 of 1925.
A 1933 price list offered the Type 'L' in six sizes, 6ft., 8ft., 10ft., 12ft., 14ft., and 16ft., but by 1936 the two larger sizes had been dropped.
This design used ball bearings on the hub shaft; all engine parts ran immersed in oil and the cover was cast iron.
Many similarities with James ALSTON's designs can be seen in the tail, vane, brackets, buffers and general appearance.
The WEBB Type 'L' windmill existed prior to, but also was a contemporary of the WEBB 'S' Type windmill in circa 1933-36.
The Morawa Museum's broken and incomplete example was donated by David & Hayden LETTON and restored by Helen WALTER & Patrick WALTER.
